Randomness!

First, from Parade:
#8: David Archuleta
One of the youngest participants on American Idol, David Archuleta was only 16 when he placed second on the seventh season. He comes in at number eight on our list with over 968,000 album sales and 3 million track sales.

Next, how awesome is this?

Read the article from Disney Dreaming HERE. More Bench video buzz from Pop City Life.

And from ChildFund:

What do an American Idol winner, a GRAMMY-nominated husband-and-wife country music duo, a music festival, a Christian rock band and a Beatles cover band have in common?

The answer is ChildFund’s LIVE! concert series, where artists highlight child sponsorship during their performances. During intermission in many venues, volunteers help us spread the word further by sharing their experiences of sponsoring a child and helping sign up more sponsors.

It started in December 2011, with American Idol sensation David Archuleta, on his My Kind of Christmas tour. We knew the three-week tour would be a magical experience ... but we didn’t expect the magic to continue in quite the way it has.

In January 2012, David’s next project took him to the Philippines, where ChildFund has served children since 1954. He couldn’t pass up the chance to meet some of them in person. It’s hard to say who was more moved by the encounter — the children or David. He has since sponsored a child from Honduras, his mother’s native country.

More "Gotta Get Thru This" buzz!

Gotta Get Thru David Archuleta's New Cover!

Last night David Archuleta performed in Nashville for Invisible Children's Break the Silence. His six song set consumed of one song from his latest album, The Other Side of Down, two from his debut and three covers. But one cover stuck out from them all.

David covered Daniel Bedingfield's "Gotta Get Thru This", but with a twist. Towards the end, he added in lyrics to Sting's "Message in a Bottle". The perfect mash-up as the songs blended amazingly while David's new guitarist played acoustic and his new drummer took to bongos.

As for David, he sang this song like nothing's he's ever sung before. Usually a soulful crooner, this sound and vibe was a bit different for David, but he definitely pulled it off. His voice alone went to a whole new level, rarely heard from David. Is this the new approach David has been aiming for? More recently David has been hard at work writing his own music, will it be anything like this new cover? Whatever it may be, it'll sure be some great stuff. And we can all just keep David's "Gotta Get Thru This" on repeat until then.

"Senseless" reviews

On January 6, 2011, a song that didn’t make it on David’s debut album leaked. The song is called “Senseless”, written by James Fauntleroy, who helped pen another one of David’s songs, “My Hands”. And this song is a little bit like it. With an R&B vibe, showing David’s rougher voice and his sensitive side.

The song is about a girl breaking up with him, and how he can’t handle it. It’s making him senseless. This song seems a bit extreme for David, considering he’s said he would never act this way over a girl. It seems like that’s why this song didn’t make the album. It’s a lot like “She’s Not You”, another reject off of the debut which was leaked last year. Both songs show a more vulnerable David, going crazy over a girl, and that’s not the way David is. Though he puts a lot of emotion into this song when singing it, it’s pretty obvious he doesn’t connect to it as well as others.

So if the question is whether this song should have made the album, I’d say no. It’s a great song, and David sings it amazingly as usual, putting the right emotion where it’s needed, but it’s not “him”. It’s a lot more believable to hear David sing about touching fans’ hands rather than things like this. Fans would much rather want to hear the real “David” in his songs rather than him singing a good song just for the sake of a good song.

David Archuleta Loses It In Unreleased Track “Senseless”

David Archuleta

It feels like 2008 all up in here, with David Cook and David Archuleta duking it out for America’s attention. Well, okay, not really. But work with us—it’s January. Two days after Season 7 American Idol winner Cook posted a new video clip featuring songs off his upcoming album, along comes an unreleased Archie ballad called “Senseless.” It’s not the most exciting thing the 20-year-old A Fine Frenzy fan has ever turned out—who knows, maybe it’s only a demo—but you can give it a spin below.

We’ll give Archie an A for effort on this one. What do you think? Should “Senseless” have made the cut on one of his albums? Or is it better off left on the shelf?
