Nandito Ako buzz!

Nandito Ako buzz throughout the week!
PEP.ph:
David Archuleta charms his ways into viewers' hearts via TV5's Nandito Ako

TV5's Nandito Ako is one of those rare shows that live up to its hype. It's really quite good.

Nandito Ako stars international recording artist David Archuleta in his first acting role. He plays Josh Bradley, a teen singer from the United States who was born in the Philippines.

Growing up in the United States, Josh Bradley dreams of the day he can come back to the Philippines to find his missing mother. And on the day his international tour sends him to the country, he wastes no time to look for his mom, and a lost young love.

Nandito Ako is directed by Mac Alejandre, and also stars Jasmine Curtis Smith, Eula Caballero, Gelli de Belen, G Toengi, Ana Capri, Aiko Melendez, David Bianco, Joseph Bitangcol, and Alwyn Uytingco.

Hype surrounded David Archuleta's decision to stay in the Philippines for more than a month to tape a local TV series. An alumnus of American Idol Season 7, David is best known to be a singer, and not an actor. Thus, TV5's decision to rely on David's untested acting skills looked like tough gamble.

But the good news is TV5 played its cards right in getting David, because as it turns out, David is not just a good singer, but a good actor too.

David's inherent charm also dominates the show. The kid has a good heart, and it shows. The show has its share of serious themes, sure, but you can't help but smile whenever David is onscreen.

It also helps that David's co-actors give good performances, particularly the two lead actresses. Jasmine Curtis Smith, playing a teenage girl mired in poverty, manages to carry a strong persona, even though most of her scenes should keep her in grief. Eula Caballero, a TV5 homegrown talent, is also growing up to be a good actress herself.

Another notable performance comes from Gelli de Belen, who plays Jasmine's mother.

But the best thing about Nandito Ako is that its story is a stroke of genius. It mirrors David's real life, taking advantage of a fan's fantasy--what if the idol is just like them? It also mixes David Archuleta with the Josh Bradley character, thereby giving the fictional character the authenticity it needs.

Right now, Nandito Ako is not making a big dent in the ratings game, and that's a shame, because it is quite good, and a must-see. David's charms and mere presence make it so.

Mindful Of Music:

Years later, returns to the Philippines to find his mother. Josh encounters two young girls, played by Jasmine Curtis Smith and Eula Caballero, who eventually start a dramatic love triangle in between Josh's quest to find his mom.

Articles from Philippine Entertainment Portal & The Manila Bulletin!

PEP:
David Archuleta on his foray into acting: "I'm still not a professional actor but I think I've learned a lot from everything."

It was not the fireworks show but American Idol sensation David Archuleta who became the main attraction at the Pyropalooza kick-off last Saturday, February 11, at the Mall of Asia Music Hall.

Couples were entertained and fangirls swooned over David's performance of two OPM songs—his rendition of Ogie Alcasid's "Nandito Ako" and Southborder's "Wherever You Are"—plus his original song, "Something 'Bout Love."

Before the show, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) had a one-on-one interview with the American Idol Season 7 finalist and Nandito Ako star.

David is scheduled to leave the country after this week, shortly before the airing of his short drama series on TV5, Nandito Ako on February 20.

What does the 21-year-old singer plan to do in the meantime, espcially on Valentine's day?

"I think we have a photo shoot that we have to do," was David's short reply when asked what he will be doing on V-day.

NEW ALBUM. In a few months, David will be on hiatus from his singing career for two years. He will be going on a mission for their church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. (CLICK HERE to read related article.)

But in the meantime, he will be recording an album once he gets back to the States. What do his music fans expect from this album?

"The album I think it will be mostly... I don't know if it will be original music because I take a long time to write and work on original music.

"So I think what I'm gonna do is kind of like... we're doing the OPM album right now while we're here this week and it's just emotional songs that people know and connect to.

"And I think I'm gonna do something similar back in the States. Songs that people can relate with back at home."

David is not discounting the possibility of making original songs if his time would permit it.

He added, "But also, some other projects as well that are original music.

"But it's just a matter of how much we can get done while we're at home. It's just a matter of how well everything is set-up."

HIS MISSION. David is not disclosing where he will be carrying out his mission anytime soon.

"I'm just going to one place. I'm not saying yet.

"I'm trying to keep it just low-key so we can be focused on the right things.

"'Cause even though fans do want to know and people are curious... I think it's just out of the courtesy...

"Just to be courteous of the work I want to focus on... also to the people I want to try and focus on, as well.

"So that there aren't any distractions while I'm trying to focus on one thing."

Manila Bulletin:
David Archuleta Endorses PHL Clothing Brand

MANILA, Philippines – “American Idol” Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta remains a busy bee in his remaining days in the country, shooting for the popular clothing brand Bench, which he now endorses.

The 21-year-old singer happily tweeted, “Having fun at the @benchtm photoshoot! Good times with the Bench family haha,” on Feb. 13.

Several minutes before David tweeted, the clothing brand’s proprietor, Ben Chan, posted a teaser also via Twitter—a close-up photo believed to be of the young star, covering his eyes with his left hand, smiling broadly.

“@BCbench Guess who's the next @benchtm endorser ? ?@benchtm instagr.am/p/G79nu2DMn_/,” Ben tweeted.

He later on posted a behind-the-scenes photo of David.

“David in between takes of photo shoot for @benchtm and FIX Hair products. Welcome to the BENCH family,” the businessman said.

Speculations brewed that the Utah native will endorse Bench after he was seen at a dinner party tendered on Feb. 10 for the brand’s recently launched endorser, “Pretty Little Liars” star Lucy Hale. The two even exchanged tweets after their meeting.

“Ok so I met one of the most adorable people ever w/ the most incredible voice @davidarchie seriously...what a talent,” Lucy posted on Feb. 10.

To which David responded, “@lucyyhale Haha, thanks Lucy. Good to see you here. Hope you have a great stay in the Philippines!”

According to Ben, David will be officially launched as endorser on Feb. 17.

David and Lucy join the league of Bench's international endorsers such as Taiwanese singer-actor Jerry Yan, "Vampire Diaries" star Michael Trevino, and Fil-Am singer-songwriter Bruno Mars.

With his several visits to the country in the past, as well as shooting for the TV5 series “Nandito Ako” and recording for his OPM album “Forevermore,” David apparently has grown more comfortable being in the Philippines. In a recent interview with Bulletin Entertainment and other members of the media, he enthused, “The whole Philippines has captured my heart.”

After his commitments here and abroad, David will embark on a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, putting his music career on the back seat.

“So many people say—and for me too—music is one way of serving a mission. But it's not the same thing… Those missionaries changed my mom’s life and changed my life, the way I grew up, the way I was raised, and what is important to me. They've sacrificed so much, they leave their families... and everything that's comfortable and easy and convenient to them to become closer with God and to be closer with other people. Learn how to love the hard way... that's what I feel would be very great to have in my life,” he related.
