David Archuleta joins Mormon choir for christmas celebration

David Archuleta, American Idol runner-up, and actor Michael York join the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in a Christmas celebration on PBS.

Recorded live in the 21,000-seat Conference Center in Salt Lake City, this event combines dancing, masterful musical performances and storytelling. Complete with holiday mainstays such as “Silent Night” and “Joy to the World,” the memorable performance also includes unique music such as “Los pastores a belén,” sung by David Archuleta completely in Spanish, Michael York’s touching tale about the beginnings of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, together with moving organ, choir and orchestra performances.

The 360-voice Mormon Tabernacle Choir was organized in 1847 shortly after the Mormon pioneers arrived in the Salt Lake Valley. The choir is well known for its recordings, which include two platinum and five gold albums, and the Grammy Award-winning rendition of “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

Archuleta, the son of a salsa singer, is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, more commonly known as Mormons. Since his appearance on American Idol, Archuleta has recorded three albums. The latest, The Other Side of Down, was released in October 2010.
