Three years ago today David sang "Imagine" on Idol! It's hard to believe it's been three years since David was even on Idol. This performance was one of the most moving to a lot of people.
David said in Chords of Strength that he almost didn't even sing Imagine. He had another song chosen, but found out at the last minute that he could sing Imagine. He said they never liked when you pulled things like that, changing your song when you already had one set up, but David said he felt like if he had the chance to sing Imagine on the show, he knew he had to do it. And it definitely paid off.
There was no doubt David would move to the Top 16 after this, gaining votes from everyone all over the world because of this performance.
In the words of Paula, "You're destined for super stardom". She was right on that one.
A big majority of David's fan base was, and probably still is, made up of Imagine lovers, as that was one of the most memorable and most touching performances David did on the show.
Three years later, and this performance is still talked about and praised, and a major fan favorite.
