SALT LAKE CITY -- The Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Christmas concert is a big draw this year, partly due to one of the headliners--David Archuleta. Response was so big, in fact, that hundreds of people who did have tickets didn't get to see Thursday night's performance.
At the premiere Thursday night, hundreds of people were left standing outside, many of them with tickets in their hands.
Rachel Thomas was one of those left outside. She said, "I showed up over an hour early because my cousin was dancing, Tracy, and it was filling up very quickly."
Native Utahn and budding pop star David Archuleta is headlining, singing with actor Michael York for the concert. Friday, both talked about what opening night was like for them.
"There's no place like performing here, and it's just really incredible with the choir right behind you. It was like, ‘Wow is this really happening?'" Archuleta said.
York said, "To actually be inside, to belong as a part of this extraordinary entertainment. But it's more than entertainment, there's a sense of fellowship and worship."
The performance is the choir's most popular performance of the year. Those who did get in to see Thursday's performance say it was an incredible experience.
Be warned though, demand is high for the concert. Even with a ticket, you need to be parked and at the Conference Center at least an hour early.
