Taking a Look Back at the Season 7 Finale

May 21, 2008 - Three years ago this day was the American Idol Season 7 finale. Probably the best season the show has had, full of talent down to the final two. Now with the Season 10 finale less than a week away, let's take a look back at one of the show's greatest finales.

Whether you were watching at home or there in the audience of the Nokia Theater, you could feel the anticipation in the air as everyone wanted to know the final results. It had been a long four months of crucial performances, and the last two standing were David Archuleta and David Cook. The David vs. David finale, drawing in 31.66 views and gaining over 97 million votes, the most ever at that time. With the extraordinary talent all season long, the finale was sure to be something to remember.

Beginning with the Top 12 performing a group number, the show already started off with a bang as the twelve performed the upbeat "Get Ready" while So You Think You Can Dance stars shared the stage with them. With performances by the Top 6 guys, Top 6 girls and other duets with the Idols, it was entertaining and enjoyable as old favorites came back and took the stage once again.

After a rocking duet of David Cook with ZZ Top and an upbeat, yet almost haunting duet of David Archuleta with OneRepublic, the end of the show drew nearer as The Top 12 took the stage for the last time performing a medley of George Michael hits, later to bring out George Michael himself for a soulful, solo performance.

Finally, the two Davids stood on stage, awaiting their fate as Ryan dragged it on, asking each judge for their final thoughts. After Simon gave Cook an apology and admitted that for the first time ever he didn't care who won, it was time to announce the winner. As the entire season all the way up to that night built up to this moment, you could feel everyone's anxiousness where ever you were watching.

Finally, after a long pause before announcing which David was being crowned the champ, Ryan announced that Cook was the winner. The audience burst into cheers as the Davids hugged. After giving a little recognition to Archuleta, Cook said he was at a loss for words in his winning moment. The season ended with David Cook performing his winner's single "Time of My Life", surrounded by his Idol "family" on stage while confetti erupted throughout the theater. It was a moment to remember as it symbolized the seventh season coming to an end and the start of the Season 7 Idols' solo careers. If you were able to witness or even watch the Season 7 finale, it was a night to remember as some great talent graced the stage and raised the show's popularity by just a handful of people who continue to inspire future hopefuls.
