‘Idol’s’ David Archuleta Confirms ‘Crush’ on Jakarta

“American Idol” sensation David Archuleta has finally confirmed that he will be performing in Jakarta as the headliner of the Pond’s Teens Concert on July 16.

The 20-year-old singer-songwriter confirmed his visit through a video blog he posted on YouTube. “[I have] a special announcement for some of you, my Asian fans, specifically to the Indonesian fans, that I will be coming on July 16 to give a concert for you guys in Indonesia,” he said in the two-minute post.

The Pond’s Teens Concert is an annual event that has been running since 2009. This year, the concert will tour to Medan, Surabaya and Jakarta. But Archuleta will only be appearing at the Jakarta gig.

At the end of the national tour, Archuleta will be rocking the stage at Lapangan D in Senayan, South Jakarta, along with Indonesia’s own ladies’ favorites Afgan and Nidji. Other performers include The Changcuters, Kotak, J-Rocks, Killing Me Inside, GAC and The Sigit.

The Miami-born Archuleta was runner-up in the seventh season of the American Idol singing competition in 2008. He then immediately signed a contract with Jive Records and released his self-titled debut album, “David Archuleta,” which featured his first single, “Crush.” The album has sold over 900,000 copies worldwide.

In 2009, he came out with his sophomore album, “Christmas From The Heart,” while the “The Other Side Of Down” was released in 2010, with “Something 'Bout Love” as its first hit.

Stoked about his first concert in Indonesia, Archuleta said: “Coming out to do the show for you guys, to come see you, to come meet you, and come to your country — I just cannot wait. So, Indonesia here I come!”
